This was one of the more pathetic displays of basketball you will see by the Nets this season. Once Gerald Wallace was declared out people suspected that it would be nearly impossible to stop LeBron James. That was an understatement. He finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Kris Humphries carried the Nets with a double double through the first two quarters. He went into the half with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Deron Williams also had a good first half, but immediately fell off once the second half began. He led the Nets with 14 points. Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 22 points on 10-14 shooting.
The most noticeable part of this game was the Nets' terrible play on both ends of the floor. The defense was abysmal, the rebounding was awful, and the shooting was a disgrace. Especially the three-point shooting. They finished the game shooting 3-21 from beyond the three-point line. That's 14.3%. The shooting from the rest of the floor wasn't much better though, as they shot 37.5% from the field. The most atrocious number of the night is the Nets' 19 turnovers. You can't expect to beat the defending NBA champions while you're throwing the ball into the first row. Deron Williams committed almost half of those turnovers with 7 himself.
The bench scoring wasn't there tonight like it has been the past two games. The leading scorer off the bench was MarShon Brooks with 12. The entire bench combined for only 28 points while Miami's bench scored 36. Rashard Lewis came off the bench for Miami to score 13 points on 6-9 shooting. He led the Heat bench.
It seemed as if the Nets threw in the towel half way through the third quarter. There was no hustle left and they were just chucking up shots. There were many different occasions which resulted in the Nets missing a wide open shots and ending in a one-and-done. Avery Johnson played the bench guys for the majority of the time left in the game. Miami took full advantage of this and outscored the Nets 53-32 in the second half.
Overall, this game was one to forget. It started slow for both teams and then ended fast for the Nets. This team still needs a lot of work, but given time they should become a much better team than they were tonight. It was clear that the chemistry just wasn't there so they need to work out those kinks before being considered a playoff team. Once those issues are resolved, expect them to never get embarrassed again the way they did tonight. Nobody expected a 30 point blowout, but now it's time for the team to move on. They prepare to play the Orlando Magic on Friday.
Final result: 103-73 Miami
Disappointing stat of the game: 19 turnover total for the Nets/ 14.3% 3pt percentage
Promising stat of the game: 40 total rebounds
Scary moment of the game: Miami outscoring the Nets 29-15 in third quarter
Best moment of the game: Deron Williams assisting Kris Humphries in the paint for a big dunk.
