Nets vs 76ers Recap

The game kicked off with Keith Bogans taking the place of Kris Humphries which was due to match up problems. Thaddeus Young, for the Philadelphia 76ers can be a walking nightmare so it was a smart move. Joe Johnson scored the first points of the game from a hard screen. For the first few minutes, the 76ers went on an 8-0 run until Deron Williams willed his way to a layup. His opposition, Jrue Holdiay returned with his own lay-up. The 76ers eventually took control and forced Avery Johnson to call a timeout midway through the quarter. After that, the Nets scored four consecutive field goals. Keith Bogans, Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace were the main factors during that 9-0 run and forced Doug Collins to call a timeout. Following that the Nets kept firing. Brook Lopez asserted himself into the offense and his teammates would force turnovers into more fast-break points.  The quarter ended with Brooklyn holding the momentum at a score of 24 to 17.

Jerry Stackhouse scored his first points coming back from injury, and that forced another 76ers timeout.  Collins was obviously displeased with the 76ers defense and they responded with zone defense. That forced the Nets into bad possessions and Avery Johnson eventually called a timeout. Evan Turner had all of the the teams eight points in the quarter and he brought them back . Both teams would trade baskets but that would only benefit the Nets. The game was becoming more interesting because Holiday started to produce points and assists. Late in the quarter, The Nets scored most of their points from the free throw line. The 76ers hung around and would bring the score close. The Nets failed to close the quarter like usual, giving up 8 second chance points and a couple of three's but they would lead 43 to 41. Joe Johnson and Evan Turner lead their teams in points with ten. Kris Humphries and MarShon Brooks did not play in the first half.

The second quarter ended with free throws and the second half picked up that same form of play for the Nets.  The offense would eventually pick up for the Nets and Gerald Wallace was the key beneficiary. He scored off good screens which resulted in five quick points for him. Jrue Holiday would later return with a gorgeous layup on Lopez bringing the lead down to four.  He and Young were problems for the Nets.  Young scored 12 in the quarter but Joe Johnson was the story. He would hit three consecutive shots that were all tough.  One fade-away over turner and two threes that were closer to the half court line. The quarter ended with the Nets up 69 to 64.

The fourth quarter was a measure of toughness and focus and the Nets showed that with little glamour. Keith Bogans and Andray Blacthe provided some highlight plays and that gave life to the whole building. Bogans would finish with 13 points.  Holiday and Turner would tag team and give the Nets problems. They were both somewhat hot from the field and they combined for 39 points. Deron Williams would respond with his only three pointer in the game and another basket giving him a total of 16 points . Late in the quarter, the 76ers would fight back and made the game into a battle of free throws. The Nets held on and beat the 76ers by three. Joe Johnson lead the team in points with 21 and Jrue Holiday did the same with 24.
