Nets vs Jazz Recap: Another Blown Lead

Deron Williams needed this game and should have used it to drive him to be better. Playing against your former team should be a thing that makes you want to win. The Brooklyn Nets let the Utah Jazz come into Barclays Center and beat them 92-90.

The first half was remarkable for the Nets. Joe Johnson looked like he was going to have a huge game putting up 12 points in the half. He carried that over and finished with 21 points and four rebounds. After a pretty even first quarter, the Nets came out firing in the second and outscored Utah 33-24 to take a 57-44 lead into halftime. The Nets shot 51% in that first half and had three players in double figures. Along with Joe Johnson, Deron Williams and Gerald Wallace were in double figures at halftime. Each had 10 points.

We all know how things go when the Nets come out of the locker room after halftime. They have a good size lead and blow it within minutes of the third quarter. That happened tonight. A 13 point lead is something that Nets fans don't trust with this team so far. They have now lost eight games after leading at halftime. The defense fell apart, the rebounding disappeared and the offense was gone. The team combined shot 31% in the second half. Utah out-rebounded the Nets 29-16 in the second half. It seemed like the Nets just wanted Utah to grab all the rebounds. They also got out-rebounded by Utah 48-38 in the game allowing 18 offensive rebounds.

The Nets had a chance to win this game in the fourth. After a bad inbound pass that went out of bounds by Utah, the Nets got the ball and Joe Johnson wound up going to the free throw line and nailing both free throws. That made it a two point game. The very next possession, the Nets stole the ball from Al Jefferson and brought the ball down. Gerald Wallace would have a wide-open opportunity for a game winning three pointer, but he would miss. Reggie Evans had a chance to tie after grabbing the offensive rebound, but he would shoot a terrible fade away and miss ending the game.

Deron Williams had another terrible game. He finished with 14 points and five assists. After talking to the media about his discomfort in Avery Johnson's system, he put on another display of ugly basketball. He shot 5-12 from the field including 0-3 from three point. Brook Lopez finished the game with 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Final Score: 92-90 Jazz
Most Disappointing Stats of the Game: Nets shooting 31% in the second half
Promising Stat of the Game: Joe Johnson 3-6 from three point
Scary Moment of the Game: Utah taking the lead with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter
