Nets at Grizzlies Recap: Not Showing Up

In a game that would help prove Brooklyn is truly a powerhouse in the league, the team decided not to show up against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies took this one 101-77.

The Nets got bullied by Memphis the entire first half as they were outscored 67-44 going into halftime. It was blatantly obvious from the first tip that the Nets were not on their A-game. Marc Gasol went into halftime with all of his 20 points and also seven rebounds.

The second half didn't help the Nets cause in this game either. They put up just 33 points while scoring only 10 in the entire fourth quarter. Shots were being missed left and right, and when they weren't the ball was being turned over. The Nets defense and rebounding did improve dramatically in the second half, allowing Memphis to score just 34 points total. But it was too little, too late.

It wasn't so much the offense that cost the Nets the game. It was the defense and rebounding, or lack-there-of. Memphis had a blast against Brooklyn in the paint. The Nets allowed the Grizzlies to get any shot they wanted down low the entire game. The Memphis big men were having their way no matter how good the defense was being played on them. Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph combined for 32 points and 18 rebounds. The Grizzlies wreaked havoc on the boards, out-rebounding Brooklyn 45-37 including an offensive rebound advantage of 15-9. The Nets couldn't stop anyone from grabbing rebounds and that took them right out of the game.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 18 points and 3 blocked shots, but grabbed just four total rebounds. Reggie Evans had his first double-double of the season, putting up 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The back court of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson combined for just 23 points. Williams would leave the game late in the third quarter with a quad contusion and did not return.

One of the most disappointing things that we have been seeing is P.J. Carlesimo's lack of use when it comes to Mirza Teletovic and MarShon Brooks. Teletovic would play just five minutes of garbage time while MarShon would play the entire fourth quarter.

Final Score: 101-77 Grizzlies
Most Disappointing Stat of The Game:  Nets allowing Memphis to grab 15 offensive rebounds.
Promising Stat of The Game: Reggie Evans double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds
Scary Moment of The GameNets falling behind by 30 points in the third quarter.
Best Moment of the Game: Brook Lopez big slam around Marc Gasol.
