Nets at Wizards Recap: Deja Vu

If I were to name a single game as the ugliest win of the season, this game would get that title. The Nets entered Washington to play a Wizards team that holds the worst record in the NBA at 4-27. The game went into double overtime and the Nets came out with the victory. The final score was 115-113.

The Nets really struggled throughout most of the game. In fact, they took their first lead with 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The entire first half, the Nets let Washington score with ease. Guys like Nene and Bradley Beal were being left with open shots and that drove the Nets into the ground early. After trailing by 14 at one point, the Nets came out firing in the second quarter and outscored Washington 32-25. The score was 55-52 going into halftime after a MarShon Brooks buzzer beating floater. Shots were falling for both teams early as each team shot over 55% from the field in the first half. Deron Williams found early success, but began to struggle shooting the ball again. He went into halftime with 13 of his 24 points. He finished the game shooting just 9-23 from the field.

The second half started off poorly as the Nets began to, once again, fall behind further and further. But most people would consider this one of the best third quarter performances, as they have struggled to put up good numbers all season long. Though still behind, Brooklyn crept closer and closer in the fourth quarter. In the remaining seconds of the game, Brook Lopez put back an offensive rebound for a dunk to give the Nets a two point lead. But after a timeout, Nene would score a low post shot to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Nets began overtime getting outscored on an 8-0 run by Washington, but sapped back into it going on a 11-0 run to take a three point lead. But Bradley Beal would hit a buzzer beating three to send the game into double overtime on Washington's second clutch buzzer beater in a row. Then the second overtime belonged to the Nets pretty much the entire time. Defense was solid and shots were falling. Things looked good until Andray Blatche fouled Bradley Beal, who would hit a couple of clutch free throws to tie the game at 113. After a timeout by P.J. Carlesimo, the Nets ran the same play that was run in the double overtime game against Detroit. Deron Williams passed the ball off to Joe Johnson, who would score the game winning two pointer with .7 seconds on the clock. Talk about deja vu.

In his return to Washington, Andray Blatche had himself a game scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Brook Lopez led all scorers with 27 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds. On the bad side, he did have seven turnovers. Deron Williams also contributed a double double, scoring 24 points and dished out 10 assists. Joe Johnson finished with 18 points. After scoring a combined 77 points against Oklahoma City, Williams, Johnson, and Lopez all combined for 69 points tonight. Brooklyn also out-rebounded Washington 54-41.

Final Score: 115-113 Nets 2OT
Most Disappointing Stats of the Game: Deron Williams was 9-23 from the field
Promising Stat of the Game: Three players with a double-double for Brooklyn.
