MarShon Brooks Doesn't Think the Coaches Trust Him

After having a relatively promising rookie season, MarShon Brooks had goals of becoming the Sixth Man of the Year. A disappointing start to his sophomore season ended those hopes real quick. His minutes were cut down immensely, due to Joe Johnson's arrival and healthy teammates. To make matters worse, he feels as if he's lost the trust of his coaches, as reported by Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.

"I don't think they [trust me] because I haven't really played against any good teams," Brooks said.

Brooks has had his share of solid games mixed in with not-as-good ones. He can score one spectacular bucket but then commit a boneheaded play soon after. Brooks, however, acknowledges his mistakes, deeming them byproducts of his risky style of play.

"I just need to take care of the ball. I think I've been turning the ball over a little too much," said Brooks. "I just have to find a rhythm instead of doing too much in such a short period of time in order to make an impression.

"I just try to go out there and play perfect basketball, and the way I play, it's kind of tough because I'm a risk-taker, and I try to make things happen. Every once in a while I make a mistake. It's just tough."

Despite his solid play of late, he's still losing minutes to veterans Jerry Stackhouse and Keith Bogans. Moving into the playoffs, Brook is not sure of where he fits in. He's a talented scorer, and his long wingspan can cause some problems on defense. His lack of experience though holds him back along with being benched under Coach Avery, who appeared to be harsher on Brooks than he was with any other player. Brooks has potential, but if he doesn't get the playing time, he won't be able to grow. With the playoffs approaching, if the coaches continue to not trust Brooks as he says, he won't be seeing as much time on the court as he would like.

Regardless, Brooks, along with other Nets players such as Joe Johnson, believe the Nets can go far in the playoffs. For the season, he's averaging 5.4 points on 12.5 minutes a game. His efficiency has increased from last season, as he's shooting 46.4% from the field.
