Woj: Nets pursuing Glen Davis with the help of Garnett

The Nets are in strong pursuit of Glen "Big Baby" Davis, who was just bought-out of his contract with the Orlando Magic, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Woj also adds that Kevin Garnett is working to recruit Davis to come to Brooklyn.
Davis has had a pretty decent year with the Magic to date. In 45 games, he's putting up averages of 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Though both of those stats are down from last season, his field goal percentage of 45.3 percent is the highest he has posted since his rookie season in 2007-2008.

The Nets have had trouble grabbing rebounds this year, and bringing Davis in could give them a good rebounder off of the bench. He's averaging 7.5 rebounds per 36 minutes in his career, and that's not a bad number for a 6'8", 300 pound power forward. Besides decent rebounding numbers, Davis gives the Nets another big man who can spread the floor. David has attempted 10 three-pointers this season, and has made four of them so that's something you don't often get out of a big man.

Now why would Kevin Garnett be recruiting him to play in Brooklyn? Well Davis was Garnett's backup in Boston for four seasons, and he won an NBA Championship behind Garnett. The most notable part of their time as teammates is when Garnett made Davis cry during a huddle back in 2008.

Davis is just 28 years old, so he still has very little mileage on his body. For a veteran team like the Nets, adding another big man under the age of 30 is always a good thing. With the departure of Reggie Evans and Jason Terry in the Marcus Thornton trade, the Nets have two free roster spots and a Disabled Player Exception to use. They hope to sign Davis in that DPE.
