In P.J. Carlesimo's first game as interim head coach, the Nets took on the Charlotte Bobcats and gave them a beat down. The final score ended up being 97-81. This is the Bobcats 17th straight loss. The Nets are now 4-10 in December.
The Nets came out firing in the first quarter outscoring Charlotte 33-15. Deron Williams looked like he found his shot as he scored nine points and dished out one assist. He would go into halftime with 17 points and finish with 19 as well as only two assists. He would play only 28 minutes and sit the entire fourth quarter.
Brook Lopez set the tone for the team starting in the first. He had 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks in the first quarter alone. He would finish with a line of 26 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. Keith Bogans also continued his hot shooting from behind the arc, scoring nine points off of three three pointers. He has now made 12 of 18 in the last five games. The Nets led 56-38 at halftime.
The team cooled off a bit for the remainder of the game, but still controlled it the entire time. They held a 28 point lead at one point, but that slipped when the starters slowly began coming off the court. The second unit struggled in their time on the court. MarShon Brooks led all bench players with nine points. Reggie Evans came off the bench to score five points and grab 13 rebounds.
Some would call this a "trap-game" for the Nets. But they continue to beat the below .500 teams, making their record 10-1 against them. Though only three players were in double figures, the rest of the game was played excellently. The defense was tough and was not allowing easy baskets. Charlotte's leading scorer was Hakim Warrick with just 13 points.
P.J. Carlesimo attributed this win to confidence. "You have to play your way out of it," he said in reference to the recent slump. "That's what we did tonight."
Final Score: 97-81 Nets
Most Dissapointing Stat of The Game: 0 points for Gerald Wallace
Promising Stat of the Game: Deron Williams 7-14 from the field. 3-5 from three point.
