First Half: The Nets started with an 10 -0 run against the 76ers. Deron Williams ignited the tone with aggressiveness and urgency. There wasn't many fast break points in the first quarter but the pace was pretty fast considering Brooklyn's usual style. Brook Lopez dominated Spencer Hawes in the first. His points came off hitting turn-around jump shots and pick and rolls. The 76ers did end up coming back, thanks to Hawes who scored 10 points to Lopez's 14, but the Nets would take a two point lead to end the quarter. Williams dished out 7 assist and grabbed 4 rebounds as well. All of that production couldn't hold off the 76ers. They ended up with an seven point lead at the half thanks to Dorrell Wright who went 3 of 5 from deep in the second quarter, leaving off at 13 points. There field goal percentage from the field was at 5 and the Nets were at 53%.
Second Half: Spencer Hawes continued to kill Lopez while the Nets looked for consistency. The shot selection wasn't terrible but they just could not stop Philadelphia. There was a point in the third quarter where they shot 59%. Players like Damien Wilkins had 13 points and even blocked a Lopez shot. Hawes had the most points but it was total team effort lead by Jrue Holiday. By the third quarter, they had a team total of 27 assist. Deron Williams led the Nets on a 9 to 2 run cutting the lead from 14 to seven. He made a couple of beautiful plays in the fourth quarter, and even scored his ten thousandth point at the free throw line. Lopez missed half the of the quarter and gave up two consecutive offensive rebounds to Hawes which were costly. Offensively, the back-court for the Nets played well. Williams had the better game but Johnson shot a good percentage from the field. The 76ers just outworked them for loose balls and played better as a team. They executed and made more plays. the 76ers held on to win and they ended their five game losing streak. Jrue Holdiay finished with 15 points and 11 assist but the center of attention was Spencer Hawes. He outworked Lopez and the Nets frontcourt for 24 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assist almost getting a triple double.
P.J. Carlesimo is still trying to find that rotation because Mirza Teletovic is not playing to his capabilities. He may want to start playing Brook Lopez a little bit more in the fourth quarter and give another look at Kris Humphries. Overall this game is an reflection on the Nets season. There will be signs of greatness but there is let down bound to happen. The funny thing is, The Nets are having a winning season and Deron Williams is back. Patience is the key but those playoff spots are getting tight.
