Each player brings something special to a team that not many other players can provide. All three of them have championship experience. That is a big factor in building a winning team.
What are the Nets getting with each player?
Kevin Garnett is a 6'11" natural power forward who was turned to to play center for the Celtics after they traded Kendrick Perkins. Now in Brooklyn, Garnett will move back to power forward and form a scary duo down low with Brook Lopez. Last season, Garnett put up averages of 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in just 29.7 minutes per game. And beyond his statistical output, Garnett provides a great source of mental toughness and leadership. He will play a huge role in the toughening up of Brook Lopez.
Paul Pierce is a 6'7" small forward who is a natural scorer. Pierce, though aging, averaged an impressive 18.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in the 2012-2013 season. His shooting percentages weren't bad by any means. He shot 43.6% from the field and 38% from three point. Pierce still has enough left in him to play a good two years at least. If he can stay healthy, maybe more.
Jason Terry is a 6'2" shooting guard who is a former Sixth Man of the Year. His stats took a hit last year as he had his struggles shooting the ball. His average of 10.1 points per game last season was his worst since his rookie season in 1999-2000. His assists also went down as he averaged just 2.5 per game last season. It's hard to tell if he had a bad season or if he is on a rather large decline. Let's hope it's not the latter.
Mikhail Prokhorov has now proven that money is not as important as winning for him. He is set to pay the team $101M and $83M in luxury tax. This team is now built to make a championship run. So anything less than a ring is a failure of a year.
The big question will be how these three fit with the Nets. But you have to believe that they will fit just fine. KG and Pierce are two amazing leaders. And Terry provides a spark off the bench. This team should be just fine.
