Gary Forbes hopes for his chance with Brooklyn

Gary Forbes' career has been defined by his bouncing around between NBA, D-League, and international teams. Forbes, who was raised in Bed-Stuy, was an undrafted rookie in the NBA draft, but was given his first opportunity on an NBA roster when he made the Denver Nuggets out of training camp in 2010. He hopes to have that same chance with the Nets.
"It's amazing. It'd be a dream come true," Forbes says of the opportunity to make the Brooklyn Nets. "Not a lot of people get to play for their home city, especially with the type of support that we have in Brooklyn, and the pride that Brooklyn has."
Unfortunately for him, the chances of Forbes makes it with the Nets are slim. The Nets already have 15 players with guaranteed contracts, which means Forbes would have to put up amazing numbers in the preseason in order to convince the Nets to waive a player in Forbes' favor.

What exactly does Forbes offer? Well, with the Denver Nuggets, he averaged 5.2 points per game in just 12.6 minutes. That's 14.8 points per 36 minutes. Flat out, he can put the ball in the basket. Those numbers took a nice leap when he was with the Toronto Raptors, averaging  16.1 points per 36 minutes. In two NBA seasons, he is a 43.4% shooter from the field and a 34% shooter from 3-point.

If Forbes doesn't get his chance in the NBA, it is likely that he will be invited to play for the Nets' D-League affiliate, the Springfield Armor, where he can be signed by any NBA team for one year or get two 10-day contracts from the Nets in January if they have an open roster spot.
