"I'm even surprised with this season, how it's played out. It's like a nightmare," Williams said after the Nets were blown out on Christmas, 95-78, by the Chicago Bulls Wednesday afternoon at Barclays Center. "The way the injuries have been and the things we talk about every day: the lack of energy, the lack of effort. I didn't see that being a problem when we put this team together."via Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York
The team has certainly lived up to expectations and with the effort (or lack thereof) the team puts forth game in and game out, they won't for a while. After starting to play decent basketball for a three game stretch, the Nets have regressed back into their losing ways and have now become losers of four straight.
Paul Pierce has also voiced his opinions on this Nets season, saying that the team is failing to adjust to adversity and are just giving up when they go down. Coach Jason Kidd has also said the same about the team, stating they are beginning to accept losing and that shouldn't happen.
Kidd stated that one of the only things he can blame on the players is if they fail to play with energy. Failing to convert on looks is one thing, playing without passion is another.
"At the end of the day, the coach can only hold you responsible for energy and effort," Kidd said. "If you're not giving it, I have to take you out. If you're missing shots, that's just part of the game. But if you're not giving energy or effort, I've got to take you out."
The team certainly did not see this coming once the season started, but they need to figure things out quick if they hope to be considered a respectable team with a playoff spot.
