Brooklyn Nets Acquire Draft Rights to Edin Bavcic in Tyshawn Taylor Deal

The Brooklyn Nets officially announced one of two trades that were first reported over the weekend:
As Nets fans bid farewell to Tyshawn Taylor, they all ask the question: who is Edin Bavcic?

The 29-year-old Bosnian 6'11", 245 pound forward has been playing professionally across Europe since 2003. He currently plays for the K.A.O.D. Basketball Club based in Drama, Greece in the Greek Basket League. This season, he's averaging 7.4 points and 5.7 rebounds on 37.7% shooting and 20% three-point shooting. Not terrific looking numbers.

Bavcic's name has been thrown around in the NBA for quite some time now. In 2006, the Toronto Raptors drafted him 56th overall. Over the years, his rights have been traded to Philadelphia, New Orleans, and now Brooklyn. He will turn 30 on June 5 this year.

Nearly a decade after being drafted and still never touching an NBA court, one has to wonder whether or not Bavcic will ever actually play in the NBA.

Something that makes Bavcic interesting, though, is that he has played with Mirza Teletovic before on Bosnia's national team in the EuroBasket competitions. According to this scouting report, Bavcic, "if paired up alongside Teletovic, creates a potential match-up nightmare for any interior defence." This report also calls him a "versatile forward" who "brings athleticism and quickness to the frontcourt." Another scouting report from DraftExpress asserts that he "loves to hang around the arc and shoot three-pointers, where he shows nice accuracy and good mechanics."

It's unclear right now whether the Nets truly intend on bringing Bavcic over anytime soon, if they want to use him as a trade piece, or if the move was purely to get rid of Taylor. It seems unlikely, though, that he'll ever play a game for Brooklyn.
