Brooklyn Nets looking to keep Jason Collins for the season

The Brooklyn Nets are looking to keep Jason Collins through the end of the season.

The Brooklyn Nets have been getting tons of media attention for their initial signing of center Jason Collins. According to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, it looks like the Nets will look to sign him for the rest of the season after his 10-day contract is over.

This should come as no surprise, as the Nets were thinking along these lines before he even officially signed.

Jason Collins has shown that he is still able to play, even though at times he's struggled and even looked to be gassed out. That's expected since he had missed a good portion of the NBA season before being signed.

Collins was brought in to bring defense to a weak Nets paint that has had issues defending and grabbing rebounds. If Collins can do this, in addition to the intangibles in leadership that he could bring, he'll be more than just serviceable for a "14th man".

Ultimately, the final decision will be based on his play before the end of his contract. As of now, it looks like Jason Collins will be a Brooklyn Net through the end of the season.
