Brooklyn Nets' point guard Deron Williams has gone through a multitude of injuries since becoming a Net. Whenever it appeared that he was regaining form, something else would pop up and down Williams would go. It's been a struggle for him, the team, and the fans, who desperately want to see the Deron Williams from his Utah days and are getting increasingly tired of his injury issues.
There's not much that can be done though. Williams will be taking this All-Star Weekend off after not being selected on the All-Star team. He'll be using this time to get some much needed rest, as reported by Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
“I just want to get healthy again, man,” Williams said. “If I get healthy, I know what can happen. It’s been a frustrating two years for me injury-wise. It’s something I can’t really control. Hopefully I can figure it out this summer and then go from there.”Williams has already missed 16 games this season and it's likely not going to end there. With a weak Eastern Conference, the Nets will likely make the playoffs regardless of their sloppy start to the season. Come playoff time, however, the Nets will need all the help they can get to try and get past the Indiana Pacers or Miami Heat.
Last year, Williams also received platelet cortisone shots in his ankles and returned post-All Star break to put up All-Star worthy numbers. With a similar situation this year but a much greater need, the Nets are hoping that he can come back and play like that again.
“With some of the injuries that he's had early on, for us it's a matter of him playing well going on from here and into the playoffs and next season,” Kidd said. “Right now it's just a matter of him getting better each time he's taking the floor, and he's done that.”For the season, Williams is averaging merely 13.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 30.6 minutes per game, all numbers that are lower than every season except for his rookie season. During last seasons' post-All Star run, he averaged 22.9 points, 8.0 assists and 48.1 percent shooting from the field after the break.
