The Nets, coming off a humiliating loss to a Detroit Pistons team that just fired their head coach today, came back to Brooklyn after the quick road trip to take on Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans. With the starters struggling for the second straight game, the bench really picked up the slack to lead the Nets to a 93-81 victory.
Mason Plumlee was the biggest story of the first half, and he put on an absolute show for the Brooklyn fans. It was almost as if he spent more time above the rim than he spent on the floor. Defying gravity seems to be his thing, and he put on quite the display of aerial supremacy against New Orleans. Plumlee was a dominant force for the majority of the half, and he entered the locker room with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. He finished with a new career-high of 22 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and blocking two shots.
While Plumlee did his thing, the rest of the team did theirs as well. Brooklyn played incredible basketball on both sides of the ball in the first half. They held the Pelicans to just 28 points in the entire half as they outscored them 51-28. It seemed like everything was falling for the Nets, as they shot the ball with precision the entire half. Jason Terry recorded his 5,000th career assist on a lob to Plumlee, but he missed all five of his three point attempts.
New Orleans, who trailed by 27 in the first half, woke up a bit in the third quarter when they out-scored the Nets 32-20. The Brooklyn lead was cut all the way down to nine, but that was as close as they'd get. The Nets' starters had their fair share of struggles in the half, and they're the ones who allowed the lead to be cut in the first place. The bench picked them up, though, and carried the Nets to the victory of the Pelicans.
Mirza Teletovic had himself a solid game alongside Mason Plumlee. Both finished with double-double's, Mirza having 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both Mirza and Plumlee have shown that, though they lack experience, they are on their way to being very good NBA players.
