The season will not start for a few months but I found this interesting article online. It's about the last basketball team that represented Brooklyn, and the Nets are quite the opposite. The Brooklyn Kings were not part of the NBA, instead they represented the U.S. Basketball League. The USBL was gone by 2007.
This was a team where 150 "prospects" registered to play for the team, giving in $100 just to try out. People with no college basketball experience, some with no high school basketball experience either, came just to try out.
It's really a depressing story, but one that makes people appreciate that we can watch actual talent from our homes through the National Basketball Association. All of these players are gifted in one way or another, even players who seem incompetent of making a simple layup. Give it a read, if anything you'll find it interesting.
I'm sure the Nets can surpass the expectations for Brooklyn fans who used to watch this team.
