The media day was a fun one for Nets fans and Nets players as fans got to see the players they root for in their all-new Brooklyn Nets jerseys at the photo shoots. While all that was going on, Deron decided to have some fun at the press conference, and who better to have fun with than Avery Johnson?
As stated in the video, either out of jest or in veiled seriousness, Avery, after giving Deron tons of praise, says he expects Deron to carry the team to an NBA Championship while averaging close to 18 points and 11 assists a game. Not unrealistic, seeing how the team is constructed. After averaging almost nine assists a game with the mess of a team last season and also producing a league high 20 assists in one game, averaging 11 a game seems very reasonable. The points are also doable, since he averaged over 20 last season and Joe Johnson and Lopez are expected to carry more of the offensive load.
But the more notable part is predicting Deron to lead this team to a championship, to become a leader that was void from this team in recent years. Nets fans have seemed to question Deron's leadership after last season's debacle where it looked like he gave up on some games. But with a revamped roster, and tons of hype we might see a new Deron. He seems to be having fun in Brooklyn, and definitely not regretting his decision.
