All New Mascot: BrooklyKnight

The Nets new mascot, the Brooklyn Knight
With the Nets move to Brooklyn, everything from New Jersey seemed to have to go. The colors, the logo, (lack of) hype, even most of the players. But as (the delayed) opening night occurred, the new mascot along with the newest Brooklyn mascot were revealed. It's name? The BrooklyKnight.

From our informal Twitter poll, several fans deemed it to look like a Power Ranger, one even said Robocop. Many preferred to have Sly back with a Nets uniform on rather than this mascot that went against the organization's preaching of simplicity. Was that really what Yormark was going for?

But then take into account that this mascot was not made for the adults, as was the majority of the responders in our Twitter poll. The mascot, designed by Marvel, was there for the kids to enjoy, and it seems as if they love it. There are several cases from fans at the game yesterday that were noted to having the kids enjoy the mascot immensely. It's a superhero, how could it not please the kids? The Nets even threw in a comic book about the mascot.

On that cover of the comic the mascot tends to look more like a villain rather than a super hero but that's beside the point. This new aspect to the Brooklyn Nets was once again received poorly from the majority of the fans, just as the news of the colors and logo were. But after a while, both the colors and logo grew on them and eventually they became a part of the Nets identity and its rare to see Nets fans still fuming about the logo. I'd expect the same result to happen with the mascot, especially since it's a much smaller part of the team compared to the logo and colors. After a while, it will just be morphed into the identity, and the fans will learnt to either disregard it or love it just as they did with the other aspects of the team.

NBA.com provided everyone with a video of its grand entrance. The silence from the crowd is kind of a buzz-kill  and the lack of effect when the Knight punches the ground is as well. But what did they expect from a mascot that looked like this and fell from the rafters with sparks coming from its feet?

So we ask you Nets fans, what do you think of our new mascot?
