Nets at Hawks Recap: Streak Over

There was a lot of  talk about Joe Johnson's return going into this game but the Nets wanted to focus on beating the Atlanta Hawks even if Josh Smith was suspended.

The Hawks got off to a fast start with Devin Harris pushing the pace, setting the tone early. Brooklyn would struggle early and fall to an seven point lead early in the first quarter. Atlanta swarmed Joe Johnson every time he isolated making him work just to give the ball to an open teammate. They would stop settling for hard jump shots and make their offense easy with pick and rolls. That provided them with efficient shots and the Nets would pull within two. The Hawks would re-group and go on a 12 to zero run, forcing the Nets to turn the ball over. Brook Lopez never established his post presence in the first half and the Hawks would turn their defensive rebounds to 19 fast-break points. Harris and Jeff Teague were the game's leading scorers at 12 and Lopez was the Nets at 10. They trailed the Hawks by 16 at the half.

The second half would get worse for the Nets. Lopez would fail to get the ball and the Nets would fail to get back on transition defense.  The Hawks had a 26 point lead on the Nets at one point ant it looked like it would get worse. Later, there were signs of the Nets fighting back but the Hawks would return with numerous runs. Jeff Teague was killing the Nets. He had 21 points and 11 assist by the end of the third quarter. The second unit would bring the Nets within twelve but the Hawks would respond and keep the Nets at a comfortable lead. Atlanta would finish the Nets off easily.

The Final score dose not describe this game. The Nets lost to a team by double digits without there star player. The starting five for the Hawks had scored ten points or more and they might have exposed the Nets lack of speed.  There transition defense was abysmal and everything wasn't much better . Brook Lopez had a good game but never really got enough touches. Jeff Teague finished with a game high 28 points and 11 assist.
