New Year's Resolution: Kris Humphries

Kris Humphries averaged an a double-double in his two year career with the New Jersey Nets. He was seen as a good rebound and a player who could knock down the mid-range jump-shot more than not. So, you would think his play would be much more prominent right? No. Humphries is averaging 7 points and 7 rebounds a game. You can blame the rotation Avery Johnson had in place or you can blame his injuries but that does not warrant an excuse for lackadaisical effort.

This is the Humphries I used to remember:

That grittiness was something special and you can see it in this video. After getting dunked on by Blake Griffin, most people wouldn't dare trying to contest Griffin again. But Humphries displayed his mental and physical toughness, showing no fear while denying a repetitive top 10 nominee. Kris Humphries New Years Resolution should be maintaining a focus so he can regain his starters minutes.

Offensively: Kris Humpries can be open for a easy jump-shot and then for some odd reason, put the ball down and try to drive past an defender when the defense is just waiting. Also, he'll might try to force things when he can make an extra pass for a much better shot. His best move when posting, was facing up and shooting but that shot has flat-lined this season.

Defensively:  On ball defense for Humphries does not exist. Purposely, he'll let a defender go by him and try and block it off the glass which helped him in some situations. But most of the time the defense will break down, giving up an easy basket or something detrimental.Similar to Lopez, Humphries is pretty bad at defending pick and rolls and rotates slow when covering for the helper. Overall, Kris Humphries just need's to focus. His game needs help and it can start with awareness in situations. The ability to play smart makes up for the lack of talent which is scoring and playing on ball defense consistently. Last year, Humphries had an rebounding rate  of 18.3. He was fourth among power forwards, right behind Kevin Love and Reggie Evans. Humphries has the technique but has lost his effort this year. Effort and awareness should be his New Years Resolution.

Happy New Year!
