Look what the Kidd Did!

I am truly excited about this next phase of my basketball career."

When I first heard that Jason Kidd wanted to coach the Nets I immediately turned into animated Nets fan. It was similar look I had when Kidd threw no look alley-oops to Kenyon Martin. The difference this time is that he will be the Head Coach for the Brooklyn Nets in the upcoming years. Kidd's success on the court is by far hall of fame worthy and not even his worst enemy can deny that.

But.......

This hire is somewhat equivocal, added with the fact that there are a plethora of proven coaches in the market. If Kidd was an business do you think investors would take interest ? He is literally like a new company with no advertisements, no history, which basically means the  product is too much of an gamble. Billy King and the Nets did because Kidd has something special, which is The gift of Gab. To be able to walk into the head coaching position with zero experience is amazing on his part. The leadership he possesses with the on the court like coaching over the years probably landed him in good graces as well.Deron Williams recognizes this but its on par with the decision of course.

"Nobody knows if he’s going to be a great coach," Williams said. "It’s going to take him a couple years to adjust. But at the same time, he could be a great coach off the bat.

"It’s a risk, but I think it’s somebody we can grow with. I think it’s somebody we’re definitely going to respect and listen to. And I’m excited about the ways he’s going to help me as a player and a leader."

This is definitely risky but its not to confuse with surprising based off the Nets track record. Most things are risky in life but the Nets made plenty in the last two years. Starting off by trading for Deron Williams and not knowing if he would sign an extension with the Nets was ludicrous to some people. The Nets were losing and New Jersey wasn't that appealing to him or the team. They also traded for Gerald Wallace, and Joe Johnson who both have contracts no team wants and they are far from young. The potential outcomes could have been devastating moving into Brooklyn but like always Billy King knows how to roll the dice. Things were positive last season and despite the disappointing playoff defeat, the future shows progress which helps Kidd out tremendously. In particular, a great point guard coaching an star point guard can be either car wrecking or lottery winning but that all ties into the risk. Since Williams is on board , the pressure off Kidd is lifted slightly. Although, the pressure on Williams might be heightened based off expectations.

Like Williams said, we have no clue how Kidd will coach. We have no clue on what type of offensive or defensive style he will want to bring but that will predicated off of the assistant coaches he wants . There are sources reporting that Kidd want his former coach Lawrence Frank which is another story in itself.

As an sports fan, I want Kidd to succeed not just because its Jason Kidd. This move will be vital if he is successful because it is far from original. Most player-coaches get into the media and learn the ropes before jumping in the fire. Other coaches who are unemployed right now are probably enraged right now but they will hide behind their political statements. There is this notion that players now in the league are tired of playing for recycled coaches which makes this decision easier to understand. Will Kidd bring the fire he once did to the Nets as a player? Only time will tell but if Kidd is the genius current players say he is, then it is definitely possible.
