Jason Kidd's job is safe as of now

To say the beginning of this season has been a disappointment for the Nets would be an understatement. They’re 6-14, with blowout losses to teams such as the Orlando Magic and the Sacramento Kings. This has led many fans clamoring for the firing of coach Jason Kidd. However, as the New York Daily News reports, his job is safe - at least for the time being.

“[Jason] Kidd isn’t in as much trouble as you’d think. The Nets don’t believe they’ll get an accurate picture of what he can do as a coach until they’ve got their full complement of players.”, writes Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News.  “That means the clock isn’t ticking on him until after Deron Williams comes back and starts playing regularly.”

This will certainly disappoint some fans already calling for Kidd’s head. However, it seems to be the right call. The full starting five, the one that’s combined for 31 All-Star appearances, has only played eight games together, the last of which coming on November 15, an overtime win in Phoenix. Most coaches would struggle under those circumstances, especially a rookie coach with vast expectations. Getting Deron Williams back will be huge for Kidd, who’s had to play a rotation of Shaun Livingston and Tyshawn Taylor at the point guard position, both major downgrades from the All-Star point guard.
