Now in his second year, Tyshawn Taylor, selected in the second round with the 41st overall pick out of Kansas, recently credited the Nets coaches for his development this year.
After spending most of his rookie season in the D-League, the 23-year-old Hoboken native has emerged this year as a key role player, earning significant minutes and even starting a few games in the absence of point guard Deron Williams.
"My coaches have been great working with me," Taylor says, according to RealGM's Shams Charania. "Coach Kidd has also helped me, just talking to me and pointing things out that I don't see on the court."
Taylor, known for his speed and ability to drive to the rim (47 of his 71 shots this year have come from within the paint – that's 66%), contributes key assets that many other Nets simply don't possess at their ages. Taylor is also known for being a pesky defender, averaging 1.6 steals per 36 minutes.
With Williams back in the lineup, expect Taylor's minutes to take a slight hit, but don't expect the young point guard's enthusiasm to fall off one bit.
"We'll be good," Taylor remarked, telling RealGM that he expects the three point guards – Williams, Shaun Livingston, and himself – to all play good chunks of minutes.
"I'm excited for our whole team to be healthy," he went on. "I'm looking forward to it, man. When our team gets healthy, we're going to be really good."
The Nets certainly have looked good lately. Coming off of two straight victories, Brooklyn will have its hands full with a talented and fast-paced Los Angeles Clippers team on Thursday night.
