Nets vs Nuggets Recap: It's Raining Threes

Following a poor performance the game before with a missing Deron Williams, the Brooklyn Nets came back this game with an offensive explosion that shocked everyone. How else do you explain 54.7% shooting from the field and 59.3% from beyond the arc? 16 threes in one game? 119 points overall and 95 by the end of three quarters as well as 39 points in the second? The shots were falling and even with their below-average defense the Nets won this one comfortably.

The Nets were always in control of this game. They went almost half a quarter without scoring a bucket, one of their typical third quarter lulls, in the first quarter. C.J. Watson played well, as he did all game, and the Nets were able to stay close with the Nuggets. After the first quarter, the Nets were behind just 23-26.

The second quarter was where the offensive powerhouse was unleashed. Thirty-nine points in just twelve minutes was a result of solid offense from various players. Joe Johnson, who finished the game with 26 points  including five threes, continued to play efficient basketball and Kris Humphries also chipped in. By the end of the first half, the Nets were shooting 9-14 from beyond the arc and held a 62-57 lead. Neither team's defense was spectacular in any sense.

In the third quarter the Nets came out hot and quickly compiled an 18-4 run to start the third quarter. That's not something one would expect from a typical Nets game. Then again, this game was anything but average. Watson and Joe Johnson carried the Nets through most of the third quarter with continued tremendous efficiency. At the end of three, the score was 95-81 with the Net leading.

What's a Nets game without a little scare here or there? The Nuggets pulled back and brought the game as close to as within seven points before the Nets called a timeout. The Nets continued their offensive onslaught and began to pull away once again late in the fourth quarter.

This game consisted of a season-high-tying 16 threes, a season-high in assists with 29, a season-high in points with 119 and multiple game-highs for Tyshawn Taylor. Taylor, who played just 16 minutes compared to last games 34, nailed two triples and gathered four assists. Joe Johnson poured in 26 points and 9 assists. C.J. Watson contributed 25 points to go with 6 assists. Finally Brook Lopez scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
