With the Nets' roster nearing completion and just one open spot to either fill or leave vacant for later in the season, Billy King decided to fill it. Alan Anderson, a versatile wing, signed with the Nets on a two-year deal. This was an underrated signing for the Nets, as Anderson adds depth to both the shooting guard and small forward spots in the roster. His versatility perfectly fits Billy King's plan for the Nets.
Anderson may not be the best shooter, but he has had his moments in his short time in the NBA. Before joining the Nets, he has bounced from the NBA to the D-League, then over to Europe before making a return to the NBA with the Toronto Raptors. While with the Raptors, he picked up a nice reputation as a rugged defender who can also hit shots here and there.
Last season, Anderson held averages of 10.7 points, 1.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game off the bench. He shot just 38.3% from the field along with a three-point percentage of just 33.3%.
The main reason Nets fans will like Alan Anderson is because of his ability to crush the rival New York Knickerbockers. In four games, Anderson averaged over 19 points on the Knicks, including two games scoring 35 points and 26 points.
Signing Anderson was a very good move by Billy King and the Nets. Signing a guy who plays solid defense for the veterans minimum and having him be the last guy on the bench tells you a lot about how deep the Nets are going to be in the 2013-2014 season.
