The Nets got off to a hot start in the first quarter. With Paul Pierce scoring six quick points to start the game, they found themselves taking a quick 12-2 lead. Cleveland would come alive eventually and the first quarter ended up being a back-and-forth. The Nets bench came in and the Cavs took a 27-26 lead after the first.
The second quarter, just like the first, was back and forth. The Nets, led by Jason Terry, began hitting threes, which they didn't do well in the first quarter. The Cavaliers were on a mission to show that they aren't the same bad team they have been since 2010 and that they have serious playoff aspirations. Cleveland held a 49-48 lead at halftime.
The second half didn't get off to the start the Nets had hoped for as Cleveland got off to an instant 7-0 run. After a timeout, the Nets would instantly respond with a 9-0 run of their own. The back-and-forth style game would soon evaporate, though, as the Cavaliers began unleashing on the Nets, outscoring them 30-21 in the third quarter.
With the bench on the floor to start the fourth quarter, the Nets began a comeback after trailing by 10 at one point. Scoring runs were answered and scoring droughts were duplicated as both teams were playing similar basketball. The game went down to the final seconds, but the Cavaliers came out victorious.
The Nets were led by Brook Lopez' 21 points and 4 blocks. Paul Pierce and Jason Terry each added 14 points. Kevin Garnett put up 8 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Deron Williams scored 7 points and dished out 9 assists in just under 22 minutes.
