Nets at Wizards Recap: First Win for Jason Kidd

The preseason has now begun as the Nets traveled to Washington to take on the Wizards in what would be the head coaching debut of Jason Kidd and the Nets debuts of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Jason Kidd told the media that the starters would only play 12ish minutes tonight, and all those minutes came in the first half. The Nets had six players make their debuts during tonight's 111-106 victory, Jason Kidd's first as an NBA head coach.

The first half was all about Brook Lopez. He dropped 15 points, but failed to grab a rebound in just over 12 minutes on the floor. The difference in play style was already made obvious. The ball movement was outstanding, something that was almost non-existent last season under Avery Johnson and P.J. Carlesimo. The impact of Kevin Garnett was also obvious. He put up four points while also grabbing seven rebounds in his 12 minutes. As a team, the Nets shot 49% in the first half, but failed to knock down any three pointers.

With Deron Williams out with a sprained ankle, Shaun Livingston got the starting nod and impressed. His passing ability is refreshing after last years backup point guard, C.J. Watson, was more likely to look for a shot than set someone up.

The second half was carried by the second and third units. Tyshawn Taylor and Andray Blatche led the bench scorers with 14 a piece. The second unit was really carried by Andrei Kirilenko, the Nets big offseason free agent signing, who had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a black. His hustle and energy kept the Nets going the whole game.

That wasn't all, though. Yes, the Nets managed to be THAT team and go into overtime during game one of the preseason. Led by Mason Plumlee and Tyshawn Taylor, the Nets went on a run that led them to a victory.

Tyshawn Taylor led the Nets with 16 points and six assists. Mirza Teletovic added 15 on 4-8 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds. Alan Anderson made his Nets debut with a 13 point performance. Andray Blatche put up 14 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Final Score: 111-106 Nets OT
Most Disappointing Stat of The Game: Joe Johnson 0 points.
Promising Stat of The Game: Brook Lopez 15 points in 12 minutes.
Scariest Moment of The Game: Wizards forcing overtime
Best Moment of The Game: Mirza Teletovic put-back slam
