Nets fall to Wizards in overtime; remain winless on the road

Coming off a blowout win against the Utah Jazz, the Nets traveled to Washington for a game against John Wall and the Wizards in search of their first win of the season away from Brooklyn. They would be unable to get that first win on the road as they fell to the Wizards 112-108 in overtime.

The first half was defined by an abundance of offense. The Nets started the first quarter off taking a 20-6 lead through the first eight minutes of the quarter. Washington came storming back, but the Nets ended the first leading 33-27. Brook Lopez alone put up 11 points in the quarter, taking advantage of the Wizards' interior defense that has allowed opponents to score an average of 52 points in the paint so far this season.

Neither team started the game shooting the ball well, but things quickly picked up as the Wizards ended the half shooting 50% from the floor as the Nets shot 46.8%. Washington, led by Al Harrington, began drilling the three pointers. Harrington alone shot 4/4 from three and scored 14 points in the half. In a tight second quarter, the Wizards outscored Brooklyn 26-25. The Nets lead 58-53 at the half.

Coming out of halftime, the Wizards continued the great shooting as they went on an extended run of 26-8 since Brook Lopez' big dunk in the second quarter. It wasn't long until the Wizards built up a nine point lead of their own. The Nets turned the ball over 9 times which allowed Washington to get off to that lead, but it soon disappeared as the Nets went on an 11-2 run to tie the game up at 73 at the end of the third quarter.

Brooklyn continued their run come the fourth quarter, extending it to 15-2 before Washington scored again. After the Nets got their own nine point lead, Washington came back, led by Nene, and forced the Nets into overtime. Thanks to a clutch three by Trevor Ariza, the Wizards came out on top.

The Nets were led by Brook Lopez' 23 points. Joe Johnson added 16 points and seven rebounds. Deron Williams put up 14 points and dished out just three assists. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce both had bad shooting nights, combining for eight points on 3/16 shooting. The Nets bench scored 47 points, led by Shaun Livingston's 12, Jason Terry's 11, and Andray Blatche's 10 and 13 rebounds.
