The Nets won the tip-off and after Lopez almost-posterized Derrick Favors (the ball slipped) on the first play. Not long after, the Jazz defense left Paul Pierce wide open beyond the arc, who opened the game up with a splash. The Nets opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Jazz got their first points off a bucket by Enes Kanter. Lopez started off the game with 11 points in 7 minutes using a variety of moves. The offense for the Nets was running pretty well. They were getting good looks and converting on shots in the paint, which equated to an impressive (and seemingly unsustainable) 60% shooting. They scored 18 points in the paint out of 28 in the first quarter. Their defense wasn't too shabby either; they only allowed the Jazz to score just 18 on a decent 43% shooting the from the field.
The Nets started off a little slow in the second quarter, as they missed their first two shots and turned it over twice before scoring their first bucket with 9:15 left in the second quarter. Both teams started off slow but the Nets eventually picked it back up and scored on back-to-back-to-back positions to open the game up 41-29 and just continued to pour in the offense from there. Lopez continued to manhandle the Jazz on both offense and defense as the Nets continued to build their lead. By halftime, the Nets continued to shoot effeciently from the field, converting on 58.8% of their shots as opposed to the Jazz's 35.1%. As a result, the Nets led 54-38 at the half.
Brook Lopez was the main reason for the Nets scoring effectiveness in the first half, as he scored 19 points on 7-8 shooting from the field and 5-7 shooting from the free throw line.
The Nets continued where they left off in the third quarter with a three by Deron, a top-of-the-key jumper by Garnett, and a drive by Garnett. The Nets scored a quick 10 points in a three minute span while the Jazz dropped 9 points in the same span. Paul Pierce and Brook Lopez led the offense moving forward as the Nets continued to build their lead. Remember how I said the 60% shooting was seemingly unsustainable? Well the Nets kept pouring in points and at one point, the Nets were shooting 63.8% from the field and had a 24 point lead.
By the start of the fourth quarter, the Nets starters were all resting and Mirza Teletovic and Alan Anderson were entered into the game for the first time. Led by Livingston and Kirilenko, the team sustained its lead. The team was practically on cruise control the rest of the way with multiple "ooh" and "aah" worthy plays by multiple Nets throughout the second half.
