After leaving Memphis with a win and Jason Kidd demoting Lawrence Frank to a mere scouting role, the Brooklyn Nets took on the Denver Nuggets at home. Coming into the game, the Nuggets were the fourth-highest scoring team in the NBA. In addition, the Nuggets' coach, Brian Shaw, had been a finalist in the Nets coaching decision before they ultimately stuck with Jason Kidd. Whether that was the right choice or not is a different story.
The first quarter started well for the Nets. They came out of the gates with six quick points but evened out through the rest of it. The Nets attacked the paint and took advantage of the mismatches that they were getting. A majority of their shots came from post ups or other shots near or inside the paint. The Nets ended the quarter with 29 points, with Lopez scoring 10 of them.
The second quarter was... not as great. The Nuggets took advantage of their athleticism and ran up and down the court when they could to inevitably go into halftime with a 58-50 lead over the Nets. Seeing as I couldn't watch the second quarter, I went to you guys again to fill this in. Here's what I got.
The third quarter started off with an EMPHATIC Kevin Garnett swat. The hustle could be seen early in the quarter and by the 8:40 mark the defense had held the Nuggets offense to just 1-6 shooting and had cut the lead to four. After a Nuggets timeout at that time, the Nets came out going with the full court press. Buuut, the Nets couldnt't handle the the Nuggets who quickly built their lead back up to 10 with the help of Foye who hit back-to-back threes. With half of the third quarter left, Kidd brought in the starting lineup to hopefully provide an offensive spark.
It didn't work.
Lopez picked up his fourth foul with around three minutes left and the Nuggets kept building their lead. The Nets shots weren't falling, they weren't grabbing rebounds, and couldn't stop the opposition. In other words, a typical third quarter. The Nets ended the quarter on a turnover by Tyshawn Taylor and a deficit of 24 points.
The Nuggets started the fourth quarter right where they left off, with another bucket. The Nets... still were struggling offensively. Long quarter short, the Nets couldn't make a comeback and lost in a blowout.
Final Score: 111-87
