Months after Dwightmare calmed and Howard finally found himself situated in Houston, Jessica Camerato of Basketball Insiders reported that Howard talked with Basketball Insiders about all the trade rumors. One surprising thing that he mentioned was that he was "promised" a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, which obviously did not happen.
“I thought the Brooklyn thing was going to come through at the end of the season,” Howard said of a potential trade to the Nets. “It was something that was promised, but it didn’t happen. Once it didn’t happen I figured everything happens for a reason. I just let it go. I was upset for a while, but I just let it go.”The Nets had certainly tried to get Howard, but alas the trades kept collapsing until both teams moved on. The last trade that was offered was four future first-round draft picks, Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries for Howard, Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark.
The rest of the story we know. Howard went to the Los Angeles Lakers, and eventally left and is now a part of the Houston Rockets. The Nets opted to re-sign Brook Lopez and have built a starting five containing Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez (when he was healthy).
For the season, Howard is averaging 17.9 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 24 minutes of action.
