With the playoffs approaching, it's starting to become all about the match-ups. The Nets will most likely play either the Chicago Bulls or Toronto Raptors, but nothing is set in stone. Anything can happen in these next 13 games.
Possibly playoff opponent Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors stated earlier that he'd rather play the Brooklyn Nets as opposed to other teams. Andray Blatche did not take that lightly, as reported by the Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.
"...you better be careful what tree you bark up. [Terrence Ross] better be careful,” Blatche told the Daily News. “He’s probably just saying that because he had a good game against us. But I don’t think that’s really what he meant or what he really, really wants.”If the standings remain untouched as we finish the season, both Terrence Ross and Andray Blatche will have a chance to back up themselves up. But for Blatche, it does not matter who the Nets play in the first round.
“To me, personally, I feel like it doesn’t even matter (who we play). I feel like we can beat any team right now in a 7-game series,” Blatche said. “Right now, honestly, I think we’re playing the best basketball right now in the Eastern Conference as of lately. Our defense has been on point -- other than (Monday’s overtime loss to the Pelicans), when we had a (22-point) lead and we let it slip.”The collapse against the Pelicans came was reminiscent of the collapse that happened in the very beginning of the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Back then, they had time to regroup and learn from their mistakes. At this point in the season, the clock is winding down.
If the team hopes to use their 2014 success in the playoffs, they'll have to make sure these type of losses do not get to them. Bad games happen, but as long as they remain focused and don't force more than they can handle, they should be able to move past it.
But it's not only that, it's health that has also caused major issues. It was said at the beginning of the season by several fans and analysts that injuries would be the Nets biggest downfall, and with about ten games left, they will have to continue to battle with Kevin Garnett, Andrei Kirilenko and even Marcus Thornton.
So far they've proven that the bench can step it up in the regular season. But the playoffs is on a whole different level.
