The Nets (4-7), losers of four straight games, welcomed Jason Kidd and the Milwaukee Bucks (7-5) to Brooklyn for the first time since the ugly divorce between the Nets and Kidd this past summer. The boo's were loud and clear for Kidd, but with the Nets on a losing streak, there were more important things to think about.
In a half that started off with both teams trading baskets and neither team pulling more than four points ahead of the other, the Nets were able to pull away from the Bucks late in the second quarter on the back of Jarrett Jack. Jack put up 11 points on 4-4 shooting in the first half, and also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. This coming after six early lead changes and five tie scores.
Brooklyn led the Bucks by eight going into the half, and held the fast-paced athletic team to just 41 points. For Brooklyn, Bojan Bogdanovic added 10 first half points, and joined Jarrett Jack as the only Nets' players to score in double figures in the half.
The Bucks were able to cut into the Brooklyn lead in the third quarter, but a 10 point quarter from Brook Lopez helped the Nets maintain a lead through three quarters.
Milwaukee remained persistent, and eventually they found themselves taking the lead in the fourth quarter. But Deron Williams' 11 point quarter helped keep the game close. Kevin Garnett would miss a three pointer with five seconds left in a tie game, but Milwaukee was unable to capitalize, sending the game to overtime tied up 95-95.
It looked like the Bucks were about to win it after a turnover, but Brandon Knight blew a wide-open layup at the buzzer, sending the game into double-overtime.
Knight had his redemption, though. After the Nets took a three point lead, Knight would hit a three pointer to tie the game up at 112-112. Joe Johnson had his opportunity to win the game at the buzzer, but he would airball a mid-range jumper, sending the game to a third overtime.
Fatigue began to show on the Nets' side, and that caused Milwaukee to take the lead for good. Joe Johnson, once again, missed a shot that would've tied the game with eight seconds to play.
Brook Lopez led the Nets with 26 points on 11-19 shooting, and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Deron Williams added 18 points and seven assists, and Joe Johnson contributed 18 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Bojan Bogdanovic put up 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Jarrett Jack came off the bench to score 14 points, grab nine rebounds, and dish out four assists.
Next up, the Nets take on the Thunder in Oklahoma City.
