Mark Cuban was bashed by the fan base and beyond for his seemingly incompetency in bringing in Deron Williams and putting together a team fit for a championship run. But earlier this summer Cuban said that they would be better off without Deron, that he was not necessarily the key to their future, despite how hard they pushed for him. Several fans, especially Nets fans, viewed him as a bitter owner, dismayed by the loss of a key to another potential championship.
Instead he said he was more angry with Kidd.
Now he touches back onto that subject. Reported by the Mavs Blog on the Dallas News, Cuban did not sway from what he said earlier. In response to why they pursued Deron so hard even though he thinks the team is better without him, Cuban responded with the following.

“You know, (it was) on the advice of our basketball people. No disrespect to Deron, but sometimes from a team perspective, the best deals are the ones you don’t get done."
“We would have made it work with Deron. But I think it’s better for our team the way it turned out.’’In response to the several criticisms he garnered, Cuban responded that the team "had a plan."
We knew at some point we were going to have to get younger. And we were going to have to change. As painful as that is, it was a process we were going to have to go through.Ironically, age was one of the main arguments Nets fans made when questioning why Deron would choose Dallas over Brooklyn.
