Nets Come Up Short in Fourth, Fall to Wolves 98-91

The Nets, coming off of a blowout win over the depleted Oklahoma City Thunder, welcomed the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Barclays Center for the first time in the young 2014-2015 season. Winners of their last two, Brooklyn looked to get off to their first 3-1 start since 2006, but they came up short in a game that went down to the wire.

Deron Williams was the man of the first half. His 12 points on 5-6 shooting and three assists led the Nets to a 48-47 lead at halftime. But it wasn't all peaches and cream in the half.

Minnesota got off to an incredibly hot start on both ends of the floor. They got off to an early 17-2 lead, but that's when Williams had other plans. The Nets would complete the comeback early in the second quarter after a made 3 by Williams. They didn't fall behind again for the rest of the half.

The second half was a different story, though. The Timberwolves heated up once again, and went on a 20-3 run to pull ahead by 10, but the Nets would cut the Wolves' lead down to 6 at the end of the third quarter.

Led by Jarrett Jack, Deron Williams, Mirza Teletovic, and Joe Johnson, the Nets went on to regain their lead in the fourth quarter, but sloppy basketball late in the quarter led to the Wolves walking away with the win, 98-91.

Joe Johnson led the Nets with 22 points on 9-17 shooting from the field. Devon Williams added 19 points on 8-16 shooting and six assists, and Jarrett Jack contributed 14 points.

The disappointing play of Brook Lopez was the real story tonight. He finished with 10 points on 5-14 shooting, but the biggest issue was that Nikola Pekovic absolutely destroyed him on both ends of the floor. He finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nets go toe-to-toe with Carmelo Anthony and the cross-town rival New York Knicks on Friday night.

Promising Stat of the Game: Deron Williams' 19 points on 50 percent shooting
