MarShon Brooks Remains Confident

MarShon Brooks has seen limited action on the court this season. His defense has been a concern and he has also been inconsistent offensively. Brooks had aspirations to becoming a sixth man knowing that he would not be starting over Joe Johnson. This season, he is only averaging a 11 minutes which leaves no room for error when he is on the court. Brooks still continues to keep a positive mindset. Now that the trade deadline is over, he has an opportunity to raise his level of play, especially with Johnson being  day-to-day. P.J. Carlesimo is even looking to rest Deron Williams so that can also give Brooks another platform. Here is what Brooks had to say about everything that has gone down this season.

“I still believe in myself,I still believe if I got the minutes I could score 20 points per game.”

“I’m playing a totally different role than I thought I would, When I come off the bench I just do what I do, just play confident, just do everything with confidence, be decisive. I don’t really play in large spurts so when I get in I try to make a difference.”

“Obviously, Brooklyn – I’d love to be here and have this opportunity. It’s the best situation in the NBA. New arena. A lot of excitement around a new team.”

“I feel like I’ve been doing a pretty good job defensively.We haven’t really talked lately about how I can get more playing time. But that’s the only thing I can think of.”

I do believe that the Nets lineups need to be tweaked. Keith Bogans and Reggie Evans are good defensively but they often make bad decisions on offense, resulting in points for the opponents. P.J. Carlesimo decided to start C.J. Watson at shooting guard last game which is reasonable. He scored 17 points and has been hitting timely shots but he also is a liability with size, decision making, and defense. Obviously  there is a true disconnect, whether it is Brooks not getting something or P.J just believes that his way is best for the team which he should. But Brooks needs more minutes because he is too talented to be sitting down. Hopefully, this problem will be fixed by the playoffs.
