2014 New Year's Resolution: Tornike Shengelia

Tornike Shengelia's New Year's Resolution is easy: move up in the rotation
There isn't much to say for a player who averages just nine minutes a game and has had the least amount of minutes played amongst healthy Nets players. For Tornike Shengelia, his goal for 2014 is clear: move up in the rotation.

He's averaged a decent 1.5 points per game on 40.9% from the field (56.3% from inside the arc). He has yet to make a basket from beyond the arc and its probably best that he tries not to take them. His free throw percentage has plummeted from 56.3% down to 37.5% so that definitely is not going to help give him more minutes.

His defense has been solid but an offense where he produces just 0.57 points per possession is definitely not what the Brooklyn Nets need.

For a player who hasn't played that much, there is only one New Year's Resolution. Work for more playing time. The man has potential, for whatever reason he's likeable amongst the fans, and he's definitely full of energy. If he can prove that he be consistent from the field offensively, and make his presence count, he'll find his way onto the court more. He's got the motor and athleticism that this team lacks, and if he can prove that he's worth playing, he'll have a positive impact.

Here's a clip of one of Shengelia's better games.

  1. I am confident that Toko's FT shooting ability hasn't declined. He should be around 60%.

I just hope Nets aren't foolish enough to include him in a trade. He has so much upside, and hasn't been given a chance.

    1. As of now he's shooting at around 37% and that is certainly not acceptable. Could he shoot 60% or more? Most likely, but he has to show it in games.

I agree with you on the second statement. He's got potential and is one of the few younger players on this squad.
