On the night that Jason Kidd made his regular season coaching debut, the Nets went on the road to take on the Orlando Magic. Orlando had control of the game from the get go. After a very long and disappointing evening, the Nets fell to the Magic 107-86.
The first half was nowhere near impressive on the Nets side. As a team, they shot just 36.4% from the field and 12.5% from three. Orlando took advantage of the Nets shooting struggles and led 41-38 at the half. Deron Williams was officially off of a minutes restriction and didn't have the best start to this game, as he shot just 3-10 from the floor. The Nets struggles defending the perimeter in the first half were a main reason for their trailing.
Things did not change after halftime. The effort just was not there for the Nets and Orlando was scoring at will. Victor Oladipo took over the game in the second half and made the Nets look silly. Mirza Teletovic saw his first minutes of the year, which tells you exactly how poorly the Nets were playing. The third stringers came into the game with about three minutes left.
The Nets were led by Brook Lopez' 21 points. Paul Pierce, the only other Net to reach double figures, finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Orlando was led by Victor Oladipo's 19 points. Nik Vucevic added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
