2014 New Year's Resolution: Shaun Livingston

The Brooklyn Nets signed Shaun Livingston to be the backup point guard for super star Deron Williams. Unfortunately for the Nets and Livingston, the injury to Deron forced Livingston to be the starting point guard for a team with sky-high expectations. Livingston has played well, though better in a backup role. Through his time as a starter it was evident that he is not made to start on an NBA team, but he has undoubtedly a servicable back-up. Still, there are many ways for Livingston to improve for this coming year.

Livingston is currently averaging 6.5 points and 3.2 assists. His points are about where they should be, but his assists could be better. Livingston has shown unbelievable moments of explosiveness. If Livingston could harness his explosiveness and use it to be more of a distributor as he drives in the paint, he can be an elite backup point guard in the NBA. We all remember his dunk in the Portland Trailblazer game, imagine if he used his athleticism to set up KG, Blatche and Plumlee for easy dunks. One incredibly interesting note for Livingston is that he is a far better player at home, in Brooklyn, than he is on the road. At home, Livingston shoots 49%, while on the road he shoots 41%. This discrepancy is critical and for the Nets, who are going to need to win road games in order to make the playoffs, need Livingston's hot home shooting hand to transfer to the road.

Luckily for the Nets, Livingston has been healthy in his brief stint. He has provided the Nets with clutch dunks at times as well as highlight plays. Hopefully his shooting becomes more consistent and he even tries to knock down a three once and a while. All in all, Livingston has supplied the Nets with the tools we thought he would bring.

New Year's Resolution: Play better on the road, and keep doing what your doing.
