The NBA trade deadline is looming - February 20 at 3 PM, EST The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the more active teams in the trade market under GM Billy King, with four of their five starters arriving via trade. The way the Nets have underachieved this season - 22-25 as a team that was expected to be a championship contender - would seem to indicate they should make a trade at the deadline, as they probably won’t win the NBA Championship. Despite this, point guard Deron Williams believes the Nets will not make a move before the deadline.
Here’s Williams on the matter, according to NetsDaily’s Tom Lorenzo:
"I don't see us making any moves," he said when asked about whether or not he'd like to see this team keep its core together for the rest of the season. Williams then went on to add, "last time I said that, I think, I got traded," laughing and adding, "that's the quote for the day."Williams did not completely shut down the notion of a trade for the Nets, instead just saying what he thinks will happen. Breaking up the team now makes no sense, as they have no draft picks to retool for the future and the team seems to be getting it together, as they are 12-4 in 2014. However, if a trade is proposed to make the team better suited for a run now, for a player like Paul Pierce (one of our writers analyzed possible Pierce trade scenarios here), I wouldn’t be surprised to see Billy King pull the trigger.
