Nets' comeback attempt falls short in 111-95 loss to Pistons

Pistons' forward Greg Monroe goes up against Brooklyn's Paul Pierce

Coming off a win against a short-handed Spurs team, the Nets flew to Detroit to take on the struggling Pistons. With Kevin Garnett resting after paying a whopping 18 minutes against San Antonio, Brooklyn showed just how important Garnett truly is on defense, as they put on a dreadful display against the Pistons.

The first half was just completely owned by the Pistons, a team who had lost six of their last eight games. The Nets simply didn't have an answer for their big front-court of Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, and Andre Drummond, who combined to score 35 points, grab 24 rebounds, and shoot 65 percent from the field. Those numbers compared to the Nets' team totals of 44 points, 20 rebounds, and 30.6 percent shooting in the half.

To say the first two quarters were embarrassing would be an understatement. The effort on the floor was a pathetic display, and when Reggie Evans is your best player in the first half of a game, things aren't looking good. The Nets' defense seemed to be simply non-existent, especially against that Detroit front-court. The Pistons led Brooklyn 67-44 at halftime, and it seemed as if the Pistons couldn't miss a single shot, as they shot 61.7 percent. Four of the Pistons' starting five cracked double figures in the half, and that goes to show just how awful the Nets were on the defensive side of the ball.

The only two Nets to crack double figures in the half were Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. Deron finished the game with 10 points, but he failed to dish out an assist since the Nets couldn't buy a shot. Johnson found his stroke, but the rest of the team couldn't do their jobs and help him out. He finished with 16 points on 4/7 shooting from three. Neither would touch the court again since being taken out with over seven minutes left in the third quarter.

Things got to the point of no return in the second half, as Detroit expanded their already huge lead to 29. The towel was thrown in quite early by Jason Kidd, as a lineup of Teague, Terry, Anderson, Teletovic, and Plumlee took the floor with 7:30 left in the third quarter. Jason Terry made the best of his garbage minutes, as he hit six threes in the second half, giving him 18 points on the night. It looked like the Nets were going to go on a late run, as they cut the Detroit lead to 9, but it was all just a sense of false hope as Detroit held on for the win.

Along with Terry, guys like Reggie Evans, Mason Plumlee and Marquis Teague made the best of their garbage time. Each played an important role in the Nets' attempted comeback. The stat sheet doesn't tell you that, but without their efforts, the Nets never even begin to come back from that 29 point lead.

Final Score: 111-95 Pistons
Most Disappointing Stat of the Game: Deron Williams ZERO assists
Promising Stat of the Game: Jason Terry 18 points on 6/9 from three
Scariest Moment of the Game: Detroit taking a 29 point lead
Best Moment of the Game: None
