Tyshawn Taylor Impressive in Debut

After missing two weeks of training camp along with the first two preseason games, Tyshawn Taylor played in his first ever NBA game. The Nets took on the Boston Celtics last night in which not a single Nets starter set foot onto the floor. Luckily for Tyshawn Taylor, that meant minutes.

In 17 minutes of play, Taylor scored 6 points on 33% shooting from the field and two-for-two from the charity stripe to go along with a team-leading 5 assists. He also manged to nab a steal which would result into a score by Teletovic but was scoreless from beyond the arc and was -5 for the day. Regardless, it was a solid effort by the Nets rookie.
“It felt amazing being out there,” a beaming Taylor said afterward.
“I felt like I was effective at both ends of the floor in the minutes I played,” Taylor said. “I’m just happy to be out there. I tried not to be too nervous, and let the game come to me, and I felt I did a pretty good job of that.”
Coach Avery Johnson had his own words of praise for the rookie.
“Ty gave us some minutes. He broke down the defense, made some nice passes, got inside of their defense.”
Taylor will likely be the third-string guard to start the season, as Watson himself is setting himself up to be one of the better backup point guards in the league, but with the right development, Taylor could be much more serviceable down the road.
