Gerald Wallace was upset with the referee's Monday night. There was foul called in the the first quarter when Wallace tried to block an Jimmy Butler lay-up. That play seemed to lower Wallace's confidence and it affected his play, shooting 1 of 7 for the game and watched from the bench for most of the second half..
“I think that kind of took me mentally out of my zone,” Wallace said. “I think I let that get to me more than it should have got to me and I was frustrated. I felt like it was a good block and they said there was too much contact. I held onto it a little longer than I should, and I let it take me out of my game.”P.J. Carlesimo
”It was hurtful,” Wallace said of what it was like to watch the game slip away from the bench in the fourth quarter. “We didn’t come out and play the basketball that we’re typical of playing. The shots didn't fall for us and they were the more aggressive ones tonight.”
“He was doing very well,” Carlesimo said of Wallace. “I just thought that we had other guys that were playing well at the time. I like for Gerald to guard (Luol Deng) as much as he can. But I think C.J. (Watson) played very well again, and so it was really more at times in the second half we were struggling to score so much that we went a little more with an offensive lineup than we did defensive - not that it necessarily worked but that was the thinking.”Wallace also stated that losing game two was "good" for the team.
“It grounds us, it brings us to earth,” Wallace said of the loss. “We had an amazing night when we probably could have beaten anybody anywhere in Game 1. And then we had a night where we struggled offensively and we didn’t get the stops we needed. It’s a rude awakening. Hopefully this game grounds us [and] lets us know that every game isn’t going to be like Game 1.”Losing game two was a terrible loss especially to a team with injuries to their best players. Wallace will have to be focused because Joe Johnson is an game-time decision. With Carlesimo putting little trust in MarShon Brooks , Wallace might be forced to play since he brings more to the table then a struggling Jerry Stackhouse and Keith Bogans. C.J. Watson has been the consistent Net so far but it will take a team effort. Winning game three is a crucial for the Brooklyn Nets.
