2014 New Year's Resolution: Mason Plumlee

I've been big on Mason Plumlee since Draft Day. Plumlee has played well since his arrival to the NBA. However, with Brook Lopez out of the equation now, we hope that Plumlee's New Years resolution is to be the man for the Nets. Quite frankly, this Nets front court has been too soft and Plumlee needs to be more of a presence now than ever. Kevin Garnett may be done, and Paul Pierce/Alan Anderson haven't helped. With Lopez out, Plumlee, Blatche, and Evans will be earning more minutes. However, the truth of the matter is Reggie Evans hasn't been that good for the Nets this season, Blatche has been inconsistent and is better suited to come off the bench, and then you have Plumlee.

We hope the New Year's brings a more aggressive Mason Plumlee and a better defender. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as Plumlee is just a rookie, and this is all a learning process for him. The Nets need Mason to standout and be a light on a dark, nonexistent front court. Plumlee has played well with his limited minutes, but we'd like to see a more versatile Mason. We have all seen Plumlee throw down some alley-oops and what not around the rim, but we haven't really seen Plumlee knock down a couple of jumpers. A center has a good touch around the rim, but a good center can knock down jumpers within two-point range. Case in point, Brook Lopez.

The second thing we'd like to see is Plumlee be more aggressive defensively. At times, we've seen Plumlee be a little too passive on the defensive end allowing opposing players cruise by. Plumlee's second resolution for 2014 is be a force around the glass and allow no such thing as an 'easy' bucket.

New Year's Resolution:  Improve your defense and become more aggressive
